Mer-Krete™ B.F.P.
WATERPROOF and
CRACK ISOLATION MEMBRANE

BFP

DESCRIPTION:
Mer-Krete BFP is a cold, liquid applied membrane reinforced with a synthetic fabric and protective covering. This thin, load bearing membrane provides positive waterproofing while inhibiting the transferral of cracks from the substrate to the finished surface. This membrane is used in conjunction with tile, stone quarry and porcelain products.

USE:
BFP Membrane is used in high rise buildings, malls and commercial facilities under ceramic, terrazzo, quarry, stone tile and shower pans.

ADVANTAGES:
Installs quickly and cures overnight. Thin section (approx. 1/16") does not interfere with elevations.

LIMITATIONS:
Should not be used to bridge substrate
expansion joints. Wood subsurfaces must be
adequately blocked at joints. Wire reinforced mud
bed is required on traffic bearing wood substrates.

Approvals
L.A. City RR 4321
ICC-ES

RECOMMENDED USES:
• Whenever a waterproof interior or exterior floor over occupied space is required in conjunction with ceramic tile, stone or pavers set in the thin-set method.

LIMITATIONS:
• Deflection not to exceed 1/360 of span.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
When covering existing slabs or uneven surfaces, the use of Underlayment is recommended as a smoothing coat or to provide required pitch. Wood subsurfaces used as traffic areas require a minimum 1" sand/cement mud bed pre-float with wire reinforcement to provide a rigid substrate to support traffic per TCA guidelines. The use of a latex modified mortar (ANSI A-118.4) or acrylic admix such as Mer-Krete 150 Acrylic Latex is highly recommended for setting all ceramic and stone tiles to ensure compatibility.

INSTALLATION:
Work should be performed only by an applicator trained and familiar with these products, and in strict accordance with manufacturer application specifications, abbreviated below:
1. Prepare and clean surface to be waterproofed.
2. For installations over non-traffic bearing wood surfaces, the entire area to receive membrane must be coated with Mer-Ko Wood Seal prior to application
3. Blend Filler and Emulsion and trowel apply to the entire area as a bondcoat and allow to dry.
4. Trowel apply a liberal coat of mastic to the previously coated area. Roll in the reinforcing fabric
followed by an additional trowel coat of mastic to “sandwich” the fabric between coats of mastic.
5. Trowel apply a final coat of the filler and emulsion blend to protect the membrane.

6. Allow a minimum of 48 hours to dry before flooding.
