MER-KO
DECK SYSTEMS
MAINTENANCE AND RE-SEALING INSTRUCTIONS
WITH PROPER
MAINTENANCE YOU WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE DECK TO IT'S MAXIMUM POTENTIAL.
THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THE PROPER METHODS
OF MAINTENANCE.
- Normal maintenance
should consist of a periodical washing, using a mild soap and
water solution. TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate), 409 Kitchen Bath cleaner
or similar products are recommended. Use a stiff broom or scrub
brush to remove any contaminants on the surface of the decking.
Rinse the deck thoroughly after scrubbing. No solvents should
be used to remove contaminants, as this may cause damage to the
deck surface.
- Planter boxes or flower
pots should raised off the deck and moved every two months to
allow the deck system to drain and thoroughly dry out. Planters
that drain onto the deck system may cause staining due to the
natural salts in the potting soil. Self contained or internal
drainage system should be considered. Plastic retainer rings or
dishes should be used under all planters to protect the deck system
from damage. Concrete or clay pots are not recommended for use
on the Mer-Ko Deck System.
- Indoor-outdoor carpet
and any type of matting that contains a rubber backing should
NOT be used on the deck system because trapped moisture will increase
the risk of damage to the coating.
- Patio furniture should
have 2" coasters or rubber pads to prevent indentation or
tears in the deck surface. If a barbecue is used on top of the
Mer-Ko Deck, it is suggested that an aluminum or plastic pan be
placed beneath the Barbecue to catch any hot grease or coals that
may spill.
- When remodeling, or
if the deck is damaged, contact your local Mer-Ko applicator or
Mer-KKrete Systems/Mer-Ko Materials, Inc. directly for a list
of approved applicators in your area.
DECKS SHOULD BE RE-SEALED EVERY 3 YEARS FOR BEST RESULTS OR PER THE
SCHEDULE LISTED ON THE WARRANTY ISSUED. A Mer-Ko Representative must
inspect all decks warranted in writing by Mer-Krete Systems/ Mer-Ko
Materials a division of Parexlahabra at the time of scheduled maintenance,
listed on the issued warranty.
- The deck surface must
be free of any debris. This is done by sanding smooth any gouges
and debris stuck to the deck.
- Wash the deck as indicated
above and allow to dry completely.
- Patch any normal stress
cracks with Mer-Ko PUC 1000.
- Apply one coat of
Mer-Ko Prep Seal and allow to dry to the touch.
- Agitate the Mer-Ko
Seal thoroughly and apply with a 1/2" nap roller and paint
brush for hard to reach areas. Allow to dry completely before
applying a second coat.
- For best results,
always apply the sealer on a cool surface, or in the shade.
