Mer-Ko™ Shur Deck
WATERPROOF & FIRE RESISTIVE PEDESTRIAN DECK COVERING

DESCRIPTION:
Shur Deck is a multilayered latex mastic deck coating which is trowel applied over expanded metal lath. This system provides a slip resistant, waterproof walking surface that is resistant to substrate cracks. Waterproof flashing for drains, vertical surfaces, thresholds, as well as stress relief for thermal expansion are incorporated into the system. The thickness is approximately 1/8"-3/16" and presents few elevation problems at doors, landings, steps, etc. in existing structures.

USE:
Roof decks, observation decks and balconies on commercial and residential buildings carrying pedestrian traffic. (For vehicular traffic, refer to Mer-KoTM AutoDeck).

APPROVALS:
Shur Deck is rated as a Class A and One Hour fire resistive flooring system and has been approved by ICC-ES Evaluation Service (#5968).

ADVANTAGES:
• Monolithic, contains no joints or seams.
• May be installed over any sound, solid, dry subsurface.
• Fire retardant, One Hour fire rated.
• Will not soften under extreme solar temperatures.
• Installed only by qualified applicators.

LIMITATIONS:
• Not designed for vehicular or heavy steel wheeled traffic.
• Subsurface must be dry before and during application.
• In cold climates, consult manufacturer for specific requirements.
• Not for use over OSB board.
• Consult manufacturer.

CONSIDERATIONS FOR INSTALLATION:
• Subsurface must be smooth. If not corrected, irregularities will reflect on the deck surface.
• Minimum standards for wood surfaces are 5/8" exterior plywood over 16" o.c. joists or 1/2" exterior grade plywood over sheathing with all joints blocked.
• To insure perimeter flashng is installed per Mer-Ko specifications, please contact the Mer-Ko office.
• In freezing climates, sufficient pitch is required to insure run-off.
• Drains must be of a design suitable to receive Shur Deck System (i.e. J.R. Smith DX-1240 series or Mer-Ko Series Drains)
• Metal lath shall be 2.5 hot dipped galvanized.
• When contemplating a deck installation with an open soffit, or over an unheated enclosed space (i.e. garage, etc.) in freezing, damp or severe climates, constult manufacturer for recommendations.

INSTALLATION:
1. Install expanded metal lath (butt seams) using 25 staples per sq.ft.
2. Trowel the Shur Deck Compound mixed with water to completely cover the metal lath.
3. Roller apply two coats of Sure Deck Mastic at the rate of 100 sq.ft. per gallon per coat.
4. Apply a coat of Shur Deck Compound by trowel and let dry.
5. If a texture coat is desired, apply Shur Deck Compound with a hopper gun and flatten with a trowel for a “knock down” finish.
6. Roller apply two coats of Mer-Ko Seal in the chosen color.

NOTE: For installations over concrete, apply a wet coat of Shur Deck Compound as a primer.
After the primer has dried, proceed with steps 3 thru 6.
